We are Seconds Limited – the company behind the Seconds app and website, which you simply know as "Seconds". Our address is IV Gobo close, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. - Communication data, such as messages you send and receive (including emails, in-app chats, and customer support conversations), plus the date, time, participants, and any attachments.
- Financial data, such as your Seconds balance, chosen payment method, payment card details (e.g. card identifier, last four digits), and bank account number.
- Transactional data, such as purchase and payment history, order records, invoices, receipts, and income reports.
- Shipping data, such as the delivery method you choose, pick-up or drop-off addresses, and parcel tracking details.
- Feedback and survey data, including recordings from any interviews you may have taken part in.
- Legal and compliance data, such as consent records, legal claims, copies of documents confirming that you own your Seconds account, and copies of your contracts with us.
Data we collect automatically
- Activity data, such as the date and time of your session and how long it lasts, pages visited, search history, user journey, features used, as well as how you interact with the application.
- Location data, such as your approximate location based on your IP address.
- Device and technical data, such as your IP address and browser type, as well as the type of device you're using, your operating system, screen resolution, device settings, crash logs and technical diagnostics, and any unique device identifiers.
- Security data, such as fraud or malware detection alerts, account restriction (blocking) details (dates, reasons), cybersecurity incident reports and similar information.
Data from other sources
- Data from other platforms. If you sign up, log in, or connect your Seconds account with Google or Apple, we receive your full name, email address, and profile picture from those platforms.
- Data from service providers and partners. For example, when you use payment services on Seconds, our payment service providers share with us your transaction data (such as date, amount, currency, transfer/payout type and status, verification status, any issues), as well as identification data (full name), account data (account ID), demographic data, and contact data (address). When you use our shipping options, delivery partners share parcel tracking updates so we can keep you informed.
- Data from other Seconds members. This might include reviews and ratings about you, as well as any issues reported about you by other members.
- Data from social media. If you interact with Seconds content on social media, we may see your comments, messages, likes or other engagement.
- Data from public sources. For example, we may see your public reviews of Seconds on third-party sites.
- Data from other sources. We might also receive information about you from your representatives (for example, when they exercise your rights on your behalf), official authorities (like when they forward a request or complaint), rights holders (such as an intellectual property owner reporting a possible rights issue), or from companies we acquire or merge with.

Making Seconds works
Setup Seconds account and access it
- We use your data to create your account and get you started with Seconds, we need a few basic details. This helps you log in, fill out your profile, and be visible to other members. It also allows you to link your social media to build trust, manage your settings, get important updates like changes to Seconds Terms and Conditions or Privacy Policy, and recover your account if needed.

- Legal basis for using your data: We use your information based on the Terms and Conditions you agreed to when signing up. When you choose to share extra details like profile info or connect your social media, we only use that because you said it was okay - and you can change your mind anytime.
- How long we keep this data: We only keep your data as long as we need it for the reasons mentioned above. We store your data until the cookies or similar technologies that collect it expire or are deleted.
TO NOTE:
- When you sign up, we'll ask you to confirm your email to make sure it's correct and belongs to you.
- When you sign up, we’ll ask you to verify your phone number.
- Process payments and transactions
- If you deactivate your account, we keep your information for a short time in case you change your mind or need to recover your account, and to help keep our platform safe.
Buy and sell on Seconds
- We use your data to help you buy and sell on Seconds. This includes listing your items, browsing what others are selling, connecting with other users through likes and messages, leaving feedback, and sending you updates about your orders and transactions.
- Types of data we use: Identification data, contact data, account data, location data, activity data, listing data, communication data, transactional data, shipping data, commercial data, legal and compliance data.
- Legal basis for using your data: We use your data based on the Terms and Conditions you agreed to when you signed up for Seconds.
- How long we keep this data: We only keep your data as long as we need it for the reasons mentioned above. If you delete a listing, we remove the details immediately but keep the photos for 3 months.
Make and receive payments on Seconds
- We also need to use your data to meet legal requirements tied to payments.We use your data so you can pay for items, receive money from sales, and handle refunds smoothly. We also need it to meet legal requirements for payment processing.
- Types of data we use: Identification data, contact data, financial data, transactional data, commercial data, legal and compliance data.
- Legal basis for using your data: We use your data based on the Terms and Conditions you agreed to when signing up. Sometimes we'll ask for your permission first. We're also required by law to process certain payment information, and we have a legitimate need to protect against payment disputes and fraud.
- How long we keep your data: We only keep your data as long as needed for the reasons mentioned above. Some financial data is kept longer because the law requires it. We keep transaction records for 12 months after payment (or longer if there's a dispute) to help resolve any issues and prevent fraud. For payment cards, we keep the details for 180 days after they expire for fraud protection, or until you remove saved cards from your account.

- Payments on Seconds are processed by trusted third-party providers. To learn how your data is handled, take a look at the privacy policy of Paystack.
- In some cases, our trusted third-party payment provider may ask you to confirm your identity for legal or security reasons (like Know Your Customer, or KYC requirements).
Send and receive your items
- We use your data to make shipping smooth and reliable when you buy or sell on Seconds. This means sharing information with our delivery riders, this is because we handle shipping, provide tracking labels, and helping you follow your package's journey.

- Legal basis for using your data: We process your data based on our agreement with you (Seconds Terms and Conditions).
- How long we keep this data: We only keep your data as long as we need it for the reasons mentioned above. Shipping data is kept up to 6 months unless you delete them sooner.
TO NOTE:
- When you buy or sell items, the other person may see your name and address, this information appears on shipping labels.
Personalised Seconds experience
- We use your data to personalise Seconds for you - like showing relevant items in your feed, improving your search results, and sending helpful suggestions so you find exactly what you're looking for.
- Types of data we use: Account data, demographic data, location data, activity data, communication data, listing data, transactional data, shipping data, legal and compliance data, device and technical data.
- Legal basis for using your data: We personalise your experience based on the Terms and Conditions you agreed to. When you like items or follow other members, we use that data because you chose to do those things - and you can change your mind anytime. We also have a legitimate interest in making Seconds more useful and enjoyable for everyone.
- How long we keep this data: We only keep your data as long as needed for the reasons mentioned above. Your recent searches are saved for up to 6 months, but you can delete them anytime.
TO NOTE:
- You're in control. You can manage most personalisation preferences right from your profile.
- To offer you a more personalised and relevant experience, we use recommender systems.
Support from Seconds
- We use your data to provide support when you have questions, issues, or need help. Whether you're a member or just reaching out, we use it to respond quickly and resolve things efficiently.
- Types of data we use: Identification data, contact data, account data, demographic data, activity data, communication data, and other data listed in the 'Data we collect' section, which may be needed depending on the specific request or situation.
- Legal basis for using your data: If you're a Seconds member, we handle your support requests based on the Terms and Conditions you agreed to. If you're not a member yet, we have a legitimate interest in being helpful and responsive to anyone who contacts us.
- How long we keep this data: We use your data until your issue is resolved, then keep it for 2 years (or 3 years for privacy questions). For purchase disputes, we keep the data for 1 year after resolution. If you deactivate your account, we follow our standard deletion periods mentioned below.
TO NOTE:
- We use automated tools to help us respond more quickly and accurately to some of your inquiries, so you get the best possible support experience. These tools improve over time by analysing previous interactions (in a privacy-conscious way), helping us continuously improve our support experience.
Creating a safe space for everyone at Seconds

- We use your data to protect Seconds from scams, spam, cyberattacks, and other harmful activity. This includes checking your connection details, blocking suspicious users, and taking other security steps to keep everyone safe.

Your account is safe

This includes extra login verification, helping you create strong passwords, monitoring for suspicious activity, and temporarily restricting access if we think your account might be at risk (until you verify your identity). If you deactivate your account, we keep it briefly in case you want to return and to prevent platform misuse.

If we spot something suspicious, we may cancel a payment or restrict certain cards.

- How long we keep this data: We only keep your data as long as we need it for the reasons mentioned above. Any documents you share to prove payment method ownership are kept for just 3 days after we verify them, while information used to detect and prevent suspicious payments is kept for 2 years.
Uphold our Terms and Condition and the law

This includes preventing prohibited items from being listed, stopping scams and fraud and ensuring Seconds is used properly. Members can report inappropriate content to us. If we find rule violations or illegal activity, we use your information to take action like restricting or blocking accounts as outlined in our Terms and Conditions.
- Automated checks: To spot harmful content or suspicious accounts quickly, we use automated tools that help us protect the community faster. We also do manual reviews and quality checks to make sure everything stays accurate and fair.

- Legal basis for using your data: We use your data based on the Terms and Conditions you agreed to, which covers moderation like blocking accounts or removing listings. We also have a legitimate interest in keeping Seconds safe and following the law, which benefits you too. Sometimes we're required by law to keep certain information - like storing data from blocked accounts for 7 months under the Digital Services Act.
- How long we keep this data: We only keep your data as long as we need it for the reasons mentioned above. We store proof of item authenticity for 2 years in case of disputes. For blocked accounts, we keep necessary data while the block is active. If it's a permanent block, we keep the data for 7 months so you can appeal if you want to.

This includes tracking how you navigate the platform, interact with ads, and whether everything runs smoothly. We also look at shipping data to estimate environmental impact and make improvements across the platform.

This covers in-app notifications and personalising content for you. For promotional emails, texts, push notifications, or partner content, we only send these if you've agreed to receive them.
- How long we keep this data: We only keep your data as long as we need it for the reasons mentioned above. If you withdraw your consent to receive certain notifications, we'll stop using your data for that purpose immediately.

- To unsubscribe from marketing emails, just click the link at the bottom of those emails
- We also send certain non-promotional emails and notifications that you'll receive even if you haven't agreed to marketing communications. This is because they're required by law or necessary for your Seconds account, like order updates, changes to our Terms and Conditions or Privacy Policy, and other important account information.

Other Seconds members and guest users
- Your username, listings, reviews and some other details are visible to other Seconds members. This is how the platform connects buyers and sellers.
- If you buy or sell something, the other member will see additional information like your full name and delivery address, since this is needed to ship the order. This information also appears on shipping labels.
- Some of your data, like photos from your listings, might also be visible to people who aren't Seconds members - like guest users browsing the app, social media shares or people who see your listings through ads on other sites.
TO NOTE:
- Ensure that you're comfortable with what you’re uploading or sharing . For example, check item photos to make sure they don't show details that could identify you. You also control what's shown on your profile.
Service providers, partners and affiliates
- To help you buy, sell, ship, and pay smoothly, and to keep Seconds running securely, we share your data with trusted service providers. These partners help us with things like payments, deliveries, logistics, cloud storage, security, fraud prevention, system maintenance, technical support, marketing, advertising, analytics, and communications.
- We may also share your data with legal advisors, attorneys, notaries, auditors, banks, accountants, translators, insurers, consultants, and others who support various aspects of our operations.
- Some of these service providers are based in countries outside of Nigeria. When that is the case, we are committed to protecting the data of Nigerian users in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, ensuring that all cross-border transfers maintain the highest standards of data protection regardless of destination country or recipient organisation.
Government agencies and public authorities
- We are committed to protecting the data of our users while fulfilling legitimate legal obligations to government authorities. We ensures that all government data sharing occurs within the strict parameters established by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, with maximum protection for individual privacy rights and full compliance with constitutional safeguards.

- We may also share your information with others when you've given permission or when legally required. This could include sharing with your legal representative or another company if you request to transfer your data.

We only keep your information as long as needed for the reasons described above. Once we no longer need it, we either delete it or make it anonymous.
- In most cases, we store your data while you're actively using Seconds and for up to 5 years after you stop.
- If you deactivate your account, it will be instantly hidden from everyone else. However, we'll keep your information for 3 months in case you want to return or if the deactivation was accidental. This also helps prevent platform misuse.
Exceptions
- Some cases require that we keep your data for a shorter or longer period of time depending on how you've used Seconds, what kind of data we've collected, and the legal requirements in your country. For example:
- Contacting us: If you've reached out to us, we keep your data for 2 years for general requests and 3 years for privacy-related ones.
- Transactions: We keep transaction data for 13 months after payment (unless there's a dispute) to handle payment issues and prevent fraud. Some transaction data is stored for 10 years as required by financial laws. Payment card data is kept to prevent fraud and let you save cards for future purchases. For fraud prevention, we keep this data for 180 days after the card expires if it was used for payments, or until the card's expiry month if not. Saved cards are kept until you remove them or delete your account.
- Blocked or suspended members: We keep necessary data while the block is active. If it's a permanent block, we keep the data for 7 months so you can appeal if you want to.

We follow strict data protection laws like the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and have security measures in place to keep your information safe. However, protecting your data is a shared responsibility between you and us.
- We use technical safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections, firewalls, access controls, and regular security reviews.
- We have security, privacy, and compliance experienced team members who oversees how we handle your information. Our employees follow strict confidentiality agreements and internal policies to keep your data secure.
- We take data protection seriously and invest in strong security measures, but it's a joint effort. Staying informed and alert when using online services helps keep your information safe. Please be careful about what you share and keep your login details safe. If you notice anything unusual or have concerns about your data, contact us right away.
In control of shared data
- In most cases, sharing your data on Seconds is entirely up to you. You decide what to include in your profile, what to add to your listings, and what feedback to leave - it's your choice what to share.
- However there are some exceptions:
- Sometimes you'll need to share information because the law requires it. For example, we're legally required to collect your data for tax purposes and share it with tax authorities. Our payment providers might also need documents to verify your identity (like government ID) for financial regulations such as Know Your Customer or anti-money laundering rules. If you don't provide this information, you won't be able to use Seconds or some features like withdrawals will be limited.
- If it's required for your contract with us (Seconds Terms and Conditions): In these cases, not sharing your information may limit your experience or prevent you from using Seconds. For example, you need registration details to create an account and delivery information to send or receive items. If we suspect someone else accessed your account, we may ask for extra proof of identity and temporarily restrict access until you provide it to protect your account.
Give consent
- Sometimes we'll ask if you're okay with us using your information for specific things, like sending you promotional emails. The decision is entirely yours.
- We'll always honour your choice. If you decide not to agree, you'll still have full access to Seconds - you'll just miss out on things like tailored offers, news, or suggestions.
- You can always change your mind later and revoke your permission. Just remember that revoking permission doesn't change how we handled your data before you revoked it.

- If your data is incorrect, out of date, or missing details, you can quickly fix it anytime through your Profile settings. Rather have us take care of it? That's fine too - just contact us and we'll sort it out for you.
Right to erasure
- We don't keep your data forever. We delete or anonymize it when no longer needed for the purposes described above, so we'll eventually 'forget about you' even without a request. You can also ask us to delete your data anytime, though this isn't always possible.
